It's been over three years now that Timothy McVeigh was executed by his country's government. I had, at one point, thought seriously about putting the whole sad affair behind me, which I had thought would leave Tim to rest in peace. I was willing to let myself move on. Now I realize that would have been a grave error in judgement. Most people would love nothing more than to forget this young man had ever walked the earth. There is still much anger, much hatred for a man who is no longer here to be on the receiving end of such rage.
Many people seem to think that the lethal injection is a very humane and painless method for executing human beings in the US. I have heard people say things like, "There's just not enough suffering involved in letting someone drift off into peaceful sleep. Nothing could be further from the truth. If the executioner had just used sodium pentothal and potassium chloride to kill Tim, then his death would have been easy---he would simply have fallen into permanent sleep. But they add pancuronium bromide to the mix and this nasty chemical causes the lungs to quickly and agonizingly collapse. Since this terrible drug causes loss of control of the victim's muscles, his face cannot register the awful pain he is experiencing. This chemical is what deems the lethal injection as truly being cruel and unusual punishment. Remember when execution viewers described Tim puffing out two breahs of air? It was at that point that his lungs caved in and the remaining air was forced out of his mouth. Not enough suffering involved, some say? They are just deluding themselves.
I hope visitors to this site will take the time to write in this journal. I am using it as a daily ritual of writings about Tim and about the cruelty of the death penalty. I do not expect everyone to agree with me and that is why we hold debates and share ideas. I only ask of everyone that you be courteous and kind with one another. This is not a forum for abusing and acting badly. All posts written to hurt others will be deleted.
Take care.
Excited!
